The Psoas major is a crucial muscle located deep within the lumbar region, adjacent to the spine and the brim of the lesser pelvis.

Originating from the 12th thoracic vertebra to the 5th lumbar vertebra, it plays a vital role in hip flexion and trunk movement.

In this video, we'll delve into the anatomy of the Psoas major, its actions, innervation, and its synergy with the iliacus muscle to form the iliopsoas.

Additionally, we'll guide you through effective exercises to strengthen and stretch the psoas major for optimal muscle health. Tune in to learn more!

The pain of my existence😣. As an ex pro ballerina, I' ve ended having a hysterectomy and a bunch of surrounding insertional muscles periodically paralyzed with a long lasting neurotoxin (ropivacaine) to, at least, be able to bear the chronic pain without taking an obscene daily dose of opioids. Who on their righ mind would be so stupid and masochist to rotate the femur outwards 90° or even more? Ah, yes!!! Ballet! It' s called _en dehors_ aka turn out.🤦🏻‍♀️ The psoas is a pitbull' s jaw, treat it with lots of love, please🖤.

I injured my right psoas major last summer and have been suffering with pain ever since. I shouldn't complain because the pain is much less now than I first injured it (I had to be helped getting off the toilet and taking the stairs and was put on codein) but I wish it would just go away. I occasionally take NSAIDs to help me through the day.

0:58 When doing this exercise, there is a knock when descending. Is this normal?

1:14 When the psoas is shortened, does the spine become lordosis?
If you look at the latter part of the video, the iliopsoas muscle shortens when the hip joint is hinged, but this part is confusing because it says the opposite.

1:08 Does the psoas get shorter when the femur is externally rotated? Or is it increasing?
