The look on Roses face when the first flare is fired is chilling.

That camera twirl to follow the flare is unique in its own rite. Not only is it stunning but it also ushers in the reveal of how dire Titanic's situation actually is. Before this scene, we were unaware of how much Titanic is sinking but with the flares going out in the water, we can see that the situation is getting worse. This movie is amazing for soooo many reasons.

The scene where a flair is released and it zooms on out a little boat sinking in the middle of nowhere with a little flash of light is so ominous. They were literally in the middle of knowhere, cramped onboard the lifeboat deck or trapped in the lower decks.

This scene depicts Lifeboat 7 nearly tipping its passengers into the sea. In reality, this never happened to Lifeboat 7, but did happen to Lifeboat 5, which was directly forward of Lifeboat 7.

0:43 Really puts it into perspective. She's all alone, going down inch by inch with nothing and no one able to save her.

I once read that some of the people who did make it to the lifeboats still did not survive that night. It was frigid cold out, and many of them weren't fully dressed, but were soaked to the skin. So some of them still died of shock and cold.

At the very beginning of this scene (0:01 - 0:03) you can actually see one of the few times *Third Officer Pitman* is seen. He is seen to the left of First Officer Murdoch in the background ushering passengers somewhere else, which we assume to be lifeboat 5, which was the second lifeboat launched which Pitman took charge of.
He was played by Kevin de la Noy in an uncredited nonspeaking role. Keven de la Noy's main job on set was actually being the Director of Production for the movie, but he decided to make a cameo as Third Officer Pitman too.
Third Officer Pitman was the only officer who didn't have any lines and went uncredited in the 1997 film.

0:42 this shot absolutely horrified me, when I first watched.
The ship's trim isn't that severe yet, everything would look fine from a bird eye view and on the ship itself, you probably wouldn't notice yet, just how bad it's gotten, but as the viewer, you're suddenly faced with how dire the situation is

It's been a while, since I last saw this, but iirc, any shot of the ship before this, still shows at least 2 rows of bull eyes under the bow and it's right at this point, you realize they are running out of time. The droning sound was an excellent touch to that dreadful feeling

There was mad space in the middle of that boat. Smh

0:44 I love that shot of the bow almost completely submerged by water.

It just shows how desperate the situation is.

It's said that at 0:48 (in this clip at least, i don't know the timestamp in the film overall) a flickering light can be seen in the distance (look up in the sky just above the forward well deck). This is supposed to be the morse lamp (mistaken for a masthead light) that 2nd Officer Herbert Stone on the SS Californian was using to try and make contact with a ship about 10 miles off. It seems so high up in the air possibly due to the same bizarre atmospheric conditions that blinded the Titanic's lookouts and Murdoch from spotting the iceberg sooner. These same conditions made the two ships appear closer than they really were and from the Californians perspective for the Titanic to appear to be a smaller ship that was sailing away from her.

Either this is lifeboat nos. 5 or 7, the thing is it still carried more men aboard the boat together with the women and children. I think it was from the ship's starboard side because Murdoch supervised the lowering. Murdoch allowed more men to fill the remaining seats in the lifeboat once there were no women and children around

It was scary when one side of the lifeboat was lowered and the passengers almost got dumped into the ocean which was freezing. But luckily, the lifeboat made it to the water and the passengers in it got lucky.

Correction, It was lifeboat 5 that tilted to one side, not lifeboat 7, and it tilted to it’s right side not left

It was actually lifeboat five, the second launched,  that almost capsized while lowered, not lifeboat seven, which is seen here. Also, I might be mistaken, but Countess of Rothes can be spotted in the boat, but she actually left in lifeboat eight, which was lowered about 20-30 minutes later from the other side of the ship.
