To quote Jeremy Clarkson. "Oh No! Anyway..."

We aren't going through superhero overload. The movies are just poorly written.

Supposedly, the "activist" producers and staff have been fired from Marvel.
Paramount TV, after +50 years, has been shut down with the Halo series being canceled, Section 31 being written off, and efforts to drop future Nutrek.

Deadpool and Wolverine made a billion. Why? Because the audience wanted entertainment, not a message or slop.

I love the fact that Disney took a diverse group of original Marvel characters and decided they weren’t diverse enough! That will always crack me up!

"Black Widow" SHOULD have been a simple spy thriller origin story with a modest budget and exotic locations that was released before 2018. It could easily have had one of the best profit margins in the MCU. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Eternals was the closest I’ve come to walking out of a movie theater in a very long time.

Last line from the Eternal movie. I can't even remember the first 99% of the movie never mind the last 1 %.

The problem is how LONG they waited to do a Black Widow film. Fans wanted one as early as Iron man 2 and Disney said NO.

I think a reason why these movies are so expensive, is that they are getting more money to promote 'THE MESSAGE" from Blackrock and others, so the producers and other big wigs get the extra money and pocket it. Not caring if those movies tank. They just want to grab as much cash as they can.

Another thing you didn't mention (probably because we're all just trying to forget that this was ever a thing) but it was also advertised with such emphasis on the DIVERSITY of the cast being more important than any other element of the film. That put a lot of people off.

The only thing I remember about Eternals was there was a character named Sprite and I kept saying “Where’s Pepsi?” and making people in the theater mad at me.

A quick reminder in defense of the Black widow box office, not the film which was meh!, but Disney DELIBERATELY undermined the financial potential by dropping it on D+ almost simultaneously with the opening weekend. Hence the legal action taken by Johannsen who was expecting a back-end percentage of take.

The worst part of the Eternals was the story. The plot makes no sense if you really think about it.

"Reternals." 🤣 that was a good one Dave.

The Avengers were all introduced in their own films first. Joe public had never heard of the Eternals, and the dreadfully dull costumes and cinematography can't have helped.

I still never watched Eternals. In fact I didn't watch anything in phase 4.

To be fair, the foundation of the MCU's success was not built on the guiding principle of giving audiences what they want. Audiences didn't ask for an Iron Man movie, or a Hulk reboot, or a Thor movie, or a Captain America movie, or a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, etc. In fact, Marvel was heaped with praise for taking "C-list" characters nobody knew or cared about and turning them into beloved pop culture icons. The problem isn't that Marvel stopped "giving audiences what they want". The problem is that they forgot how to make good movies. Because if they had stayed on the quality path, I maintain that even movies like Eternals could have succeeded as much as Guardians of the Galaxy.
