Host Emma Wulfhorst brings post-election, and pre-inauguration questions to Kate Dias, president of the Connecticut Education Association. With President-Elect Donald Trump vowing to dismantle the U.S. Dept. of Education, what would that really mean for Connecticut? Plus, Dias discusses concerns surrounding federal funding, already declining, and how it could be taken away depending on curriculum and the new administration's agenda for the states. Her message to state lawmakers and Connecticut's congressional delegation. Along with insight into steps they are taking now, with local boards of education, teachers and parents. Wulfhorst also asks Dias about the state's close connection with current U.S. Education Secretary, Miguel Cardona, a Connecticut native as well as Trump's new pick, Connecticut's own Linda McMahon.

36% is what you will get of federal money.
People wanted it and they will reap the results so the very rich will not pay taxes.

Understanding that education is our future is important. The value of education begins with the parents. The problems with education are not easily solved, but can begin a resolutive posture when children attend school regularly. I am of the firm belief that school should begin at 3 years of age and go until14. Then move students into commercial/trades for two years. At this time students can decide if higher education or technical education is something they are interested in pursuing. We also need to incorporate technology into learning so students move swiftly into areas of interest. We need to teach a generation ahead, so that students are ready for their chosen careers. Too many folks want to regress instead of looking into the future.
