The death of David Bowie was a profound loss for music, art and culture, yet his presence is still felt through the countless artists that inspired. Lorde showcased that with her stunning tribute at the BRIT Awards, but before that we asked rising star Aurora to perform her utterly enchanting and breathtaking cover of 'Life On Mars' for us. Check it out below.
Just as she did with Oasis' 'Half The World Away' for the John Lewis Christmas ad, Aurora takes a seminal track and weaves her own unique spirit throughout it.
"I just really understand 'the girl with the mousey hair'," Aurora tells Gigwise of her love of the track. "she gets quite disappointed over the world and she hears about this greater, more beautiful life that might be out there somewhere. She asks herself these questions - is there life on Mars? Is there a purer life that I don't have access to?"
She continues: "It's just a really beautiful song, and I loved it from the first time I heard it. David Bowie himself is a hero, he just made us all feel so special - he was a genius. The way he behaved, the way he answered all of his interviews, the way he was, it was just so inspirational."
Aurora adds: "It's very bold to embrace your inner quirkiness, and he helped me not to be ashamed of who I am."
