I have grandchildren, and that IS a big longevity and health motivator. I don’t just want to live to see them graduate, but live to go snowboarding with them to celebrate the fact.

You don’t know how age will affect you. How your family age is the best guide. My grandpa was what I think of as normal until his quick death at 97. Still walking just fine. Smoking is the worst for longevity, followed by being sedentary and heavy drinking. Diet doesn’t make that much of a difference unless it makes you overweight. My grandpa lived on meat pies.

Avoid accidents and surgery when you get old. That’s what can age you overnight. Happened to my mother in law. I am 72. I run, lift and live an active normal life. I can’t pretend I will be the same at 100 but with our understanding of how to stay healthy and the good side of medicine we just don’t know. If I can be like this for another 30 years I’m all in.

Careful with all the fasting. Losing muscle mass is alarming and as you get older it’s harder and harder to regain it.

I have been on the same journey as you, for the last 40 years… tried every conceivable diet..my conclusion… eat clean. With regular fasting. OMAD is good if you can do it…exercise daily… and have a reason to live… if you don’t have one, then find one…but most importantly enjoy life…have an occasional drink.. an occasional cake… an occasional anything to brighten up your day.. 😊

If you want to age well you have to get your muscle mass up. That’s the biggest predictor of dysfunction in older populations. They get weak and frail. Muscle mass and strength matters. It’s not just diet.

This is the part all the old plant based docs ignore. You don’t want to be mcdougal. Go to the gym, people. Old vegans don’t look any better than old omnivores. They get frail and weak too. Any longevity approach needs to address this. WFPB, bulk, and put on twenty pounds of LBM. Then maintain it into old age. That’s probably the best approach.
