So the patio had to be torn down? Why couldn't the post be anchored to the house? It looks like putting the patio on the house wall would have required tearing into the house. Probably would have had to tear the wall apart to add studs to support the weight. I'm not defending the builder. This design allows the patio to be torn off the house in a wind storm while doing minimal damage to the house!
