But, the truth is: a boring job what will let you live a fabulous life, while having a career you enjoy. Especially when I work with toxic job escapees, boring jobs are a common concern, but really they are often the ideal work situation - as long as it’s the right kind of boring - and might be the jobs that let you have exceptional career growth - without sweating difficult coworkers or bad managers.

Love this!! My takeaway from "boring" is that this usually means low stress, non-toxic environments. Work will always be work, but the people you work with and environment you work in are the deal breakers.

Thank you Jennifer, I needed to hear that. I have felt guilty for thinking this way but god, I cannot anymore, now I just want a job that doesn't suck the life out of me. And companies should understand that as well.

I'm about to be 52. I'm done with promotions and worrying about this and that and how to better myself, etc. Thanks for the confirmation that I'm doing what's right for me and my life, not anyone else's

I left a nice boring job because my ego wanted more. Now I just work and unable to focus on my real passion for the time being. The grass is not always greener.

key thing is to look busy at a boring job and not be an overachiever. if you do, you are on a one way track to burnout.

If you are neither underutilized nor overburdened, have good colleagues and boss, help others through your work, it is a dream job.

This is a great video. I also believe that if you are doing something you absolutely loathe day after day, it will eventually suck the life out of you. There are so many variables to a job that is boring, toxic, stressful, etc that can impact your personal life negatively. It's not worth it in some cases.

I am glad to see you changing your narrative. Me personally, I do not see a point climbing the carreer ladder and being a manager just to have senior managers complaining to me all day. I love the fact from my job that I can work 4 hours a day remotely and just go back with my life workouts, kids with an empty mind. If at some point I decide to do more I will do more. But I do not want a promotion sorry. I can aways take more money though.

I am currently at my first toxic job. It is the first time in my life I don't feel after leaving each day.
Doing medium workloads efficiently & competently is an extremely enjoyable/empowering experience.

So, Im doing a job search now & next time will immediately BAIL if the workplace is toxic. I job hop to the next level every 2 years, so I chose to stick it out. That was a huge waste of my time/energy/moral. Won't be making that mistake again

Grateful to have a job that doesn't take over my life and coworkers I don't want to punch. It really is a blessing!

I totally agree. I love my boring job. It has all the aspects you mentioned- tiny bit of drama now and then, that one difficult person who everyone " loves", it's paid reasonably well, and it's overall a normal job, where you come in and clock out at the end of the shift and that's it. I learned my lesson and even with the difficult individuals, if you learn not to have expectation from people, you're taking away their power to hurt you or your feelings. Their work attitude it's not your work attitude, and we can't really change if someone chose being an asshole as their purpose in life. And there is a peace in that realization. I get asked occasionally why I don't get a better job? And I'm like, no thanks. I don't need new challenges everyday, or new stress enducers, or having to get to know new people and trying to figure out the new dynamics all over again. I'd rather stay where I already know my stuff, know the job and the people and know what awaits me, ( 95% of the time) once I clock in. Here is to boring jobs all over the world!!! We love you !!! ❤

I had an exciting job. I saw and experienced things most people will never see. However, it did consume my life and it defined who I was. It is ironic now that I have a boring job. I mostly alone a lot of the time. I do miss the adrenaline rush I got from my other job, but I have learned to supplement that with hobbies. This boring job has set hours and actually pays more than my other job. I was a “hero”. I think we learn from childhood that we are what we do for a living. Now that I am older I realize that is not true. I have more time for my personal life now and my job only takes up portion of my day. I sit here and think of what I used to do, but watching your video made me realize how lucky I am.

She is 100% correct. I think Jennifer just described my current position in tech to a tee. It’s also one of the many reasons that I enjoy going to work each and every day.

Great to hear, as I know this. But, sometimes it’s not you or the job, it’s the people around you with managers or work colleagues that make things disheartening for you that is out of your control.

Agree so much with this. Just as Freud said about cigars - Sometimes a job is just a job. And that's ok.

Thank you for discussing this!! Please, please, PLEASE make more videos about this. I've recently realized my self-worth was tied to my job making everything feel like life and death in my high anxiety, highly toxic workplace. I've been trying, but don't know how to disconnect the two (my worth from my job).

THIS. I took a new job recently and I frequently go home exhausted. Granted, I'm new to this role but then I recall my previous position where I could do my job with minimal effort and be ready to tackle my hobbies at home.
