This is so valuable! I don’t have a thyroid and I know what it feels to live with out that and use hormone replacement. However I am having my ovaries and Fallopian tubes removed and asked about HRT. My surgeon said that I can’t live without thyroid hormone therapy but I can live without the hormones I will be missing going into surgical menopause. She is worried about estrogen bc of my family cancer history. She talked about handling it naturally. We have not discussed specifics yet. Sounds like we need these hormones whether we feel it or not because they do a lot of behind the scenes work. 😩

Hello Debra and Dr. Dunston,
I congratulate both of you for the conversation and clarifications about hormone therapy. I am 52 years old and my last period happened 6 six ago. I have been experiencing many side effects of poor hormones levels after menopause such as: insomnia, thinner hair and hair loss, weight gain that is really, really difficult to lose, memory fog, vaginally dryness that makes sex painful and etc. My family has an history of breast cancer and this is the reason I always believed that hormonal treatment was not an option in my case. My question is, am I right in my assumption or could I benefit from hormone therapy? I have never talked about this subject with to my family Dr. Should I start a conversation?
Thank you!
Ileana
