For the record, it looks like a oretty simple spring mechanism. You 100% CAN make a blaster that operates as shown.

Likely it is a sim or was broken by a BB or something similar.
It certainly looks like a plate filmed separately at a minimum.

Knew they were fake but still have no idea what made the mug explode like that

I'd call that editing. Or maybe a timed explosive. But I think it's a hard to see projectile and then the wooden one edited into the footage

Media student here. The projectile in the cup shot looks like its edited over as a blurry png flying across the screen, it doesn't even move when it hits the mug. And it sounds like it's either a triggered explosion i.e fire cracker or a larger air gun doing it. But the smoke seems to tell the firecracker.

Easiest way to figure this out would be to track the velocity of the projectile before and after it breaks, if the energy in the projectile is the same before and after it would be safe to assume there's something wrong here.

One additional thing to add: it also looks like the individual pieces of the mug travel away from one central point, this isn't an end all be all but you don't just get dynamics like this for no reason. I'm gonna do an analysis myself cuz it's actually really interesting and now for sure seems fake lol.

The bullet is composited over the footage of the mug, and the frames including the real projectile were removed

It almost sounds like an air gun shooting right before the mug explodes.

Yeah the bamboo bullet is too big for the mug to break like that the bullet was definitely smaller 😂

The explosion is coming from the inside. Movie magic at its finest.

Shards fly away from a point inside (near the mouth of) the cup.
A weird companion piece to, ".50 cal will rip your arm off, even if it doesn't touch you!"

I knew it was too good to be true, especially the fact that the Wooden arrow still kept a fair straight line after.

My sister is slowly replacing all our glassware with her own ceramic work, and one thing I've learned through this process is that glass explodes, but ceramic shatters.

You'd think the two would be synonymous in this context, but with ceramic, you see more large fragments and chips and only a few shards, whereas breaking glass is a great way to get shards and smaller fragments everywhere.

So as far as this video goes, something else put a lot more force on that mug than a spring-powered wooden dart likely could. A small powder charge inside the mug, or a shot from an air gun, might replicate the result.

They use the same mug shot for allof their creations lol

The "projectile" is edited on top of the shot of something else actually breaking the mug. They didn't even bother trying to show it going THROUGH the object, it's just on a layer on top of the mug footage with some basic blur added on top. The lighting is all wrong for the added projectile. As others have commented, it's probably a BB gun or other small projectile that, judging by the explosion of the mug, hit somewhere near the bottom right of where it is hanging in the footage.

Good lord. These fake videos are getting so good at editing that you have to get NSA specialists on them to figure it out😬.

The puff of smoke is pretty consistent with a firecracker in the mug.

Yeah, now that I seen your frame by frame and then I rewatched the bullet trajectory. This whole thing is CGI or they had a little blasting cap inside of there

to my unprofessional vfx expertise, it looks like the bullet has fake blure, and motion of it also looks coped in. I might be wrong tho
