Officers are hurting? What about the victims family? What about Zion, the 8 year old who watched his aunt die in front of him???

They're only sorry that there was a witness.

How about instead of a healing process, we start a changing process? How about we start removing the racists murderers from police forces? We're tired of healing! We want change!

Let the healing begin when he actually serves time.

I believe what this chief is showing, is a different kind of hurt. It's a tragedy of what happened to Ms. Jefferson, one that should not have happened. The chief is upset for his men and women who tried to build a better community, just to watch it fall due to this event.

There is pain on both sides, and there should be justice.

It's really a shame how police officers' "perception" that a neighborhood is "high crime & dangerous" often affects the way that they approach even a "wellness check" request that's made through a non-emergency line. The cops in this situation, both Officer Dean and his "unnamed partner", parked their squad car "away from the home" where it could not be seen. They treated this wellness call like a raid on a drug house filled with armed criminals. That's the "perception" that so many police officers have, in particular neighborhoods, regardless of how inappropriate it may be in a non-threatening situation like a simple wellness check. These two cops "anticipated" being attacked in some way, shape, or form, so they went from "wellness check mode" to "armed, tactical mode" in a nanosecond. They cautiously creeped up to the property, as though they could be fired upon at any second, and with this in mind, they deliberately failed to speak through the screen on the locked screen door. In these cops' minds, speaking through the screen would have prompted whoever was inside to shoot them where they stood. Then Officer Dean (for some as yet unknown reason) decided to run around to the side of the house into and into backyard, where he shouted at someone at the bedroom window, then quickly fired at Atatiana Jefferson, who happened to be resident at the home, not a dangerous burglar.

It's all about money. The murder will get a light sentence, but he will literally buy it.

It’s a puzzle to me that such events continue. US cities have to pay out millions in settlements, plus the bad publicity. Wouldn’t it make sense to review and change police training to guard against such occurrences. It’s not as if they were blindsided, but it keeps happening.

I know how sad everyone must be feeling about Atatiana Jefferson's tragic killing and what her friends and family must be going through, but Chief Kraus is here to remind us who the real victims in this story are: the police officers who have to endure the discomfort of being criticized after each time one of them murders somebody in his or her own home.

Granted bail? FOR MURDER? When Texas grants bail to murder defendants, something is wonky.

Think where this would be without bodycams. Seems all those police unions were wrong. This case proves they are needed. Them finding a gun sound like a plant.
