Why Do Things REALLY Fall? (with General Relativity)

preview_player

In classical physics, gravity is a force that pulls objects toward the center of the Earth. In general relativity, gravity is the result of curved spacetime and geodesics, but what exactly does that mean?

"Squirrels fall because their future is on the ground."

A lot of math and science youtubers sound like they're just literally paraphrasing from a textbook. Not you. You sound like you actually sit down and put a lot of thought into making things understandable. Thank you for that.

I could “fall” in love with this channel but I already did and had a “lucid” dream of General Relativity.

I have a degree in physics and this *_still_* made my eyebrows ignore the "force of gravity". Subscribed!

I have looked at and follow a lot of channels to deal with this sort of stuff. And yours is the only one really dealing with these sort of mind blowing problems. Keep up the good work

Your way of explaining has a bit of Feynman in it. Don't stop making these videos.

Saying that curvature is in spacetime, not space and the last phrase "curvature makes your positions in the 'future' change" really cleared out my doubts. Nice!!!

Absolutely brilliant, a curved line placing an object in a future location, there is essentially no such thing as a straight line... ever.

"Time curvature puts their future at a different point in space". I'd love to head a deeper explanation on this point.

this just blew my mind. I didn't see that coming

Awesome video, once again! I also love the way m/s^2 now makes so much more sense when I look at your 3D graph with time going upwards and see the squirrel's future shown as a parabola, and realise that the time term is *squared*. It's so simple when it's shown that way! Nice visuals.

One of your videos is going to get viral and then the whole channel will be, that's where your future is.

Thanks for making the concept of relativity more clear .Great job

I'm still confused, but the more of these things I see, the more I feel I understand General Relativity. Maybe one day it will make complete sense. Thanks for making the video.

I've had this question for a while now! I was just missing the whole time part.
This reminds me of an explanation for the inescapability of the event horizon that I read in Kip S. Thorne's *Black Holes and Time Warps* . He said that because all matter and energy is pulled inexorably forward through time, and because time flows into the singularity, everything within the critical circumference has no choice but to fall further in.

I have come across a plenty of video about general relativity, but i have to admit this is the most understandable explanation .

That is deep! I've never heard of that, position in the future. That's so deep that I'll give it time to think about it. :)

4:10 Another groundbreaking -squirrel- visualization from The Science Asylum!

it’s always mind blowing how the universe works when you explain it. i knew a little about geodesics and how we actually fall but i didn’t know Time had a role in this play. i really love and enjoy your content.
