How Does Hyperspace ACTUALLY Work? (Star Wars Canon Explained)
Показать описание
How does hyperspace actually work? Many people are familiar with hyperspace as a method of travelling between different systems in the Galaxy, but what was the mechanism through which hyperspace operated and what was its history within the canon timeline.
Accessed via molecular displacement, which was accomplished by exceeding the speed of light, Hyperspece was coexistent with realspace, meaning that each point in realspace was linked with a unique point in hyperspace, with all neighbouring locations in realspace also neighbouring in hyperspace. Furthermore, every object in actual space, such as stars and planets, had a shadow counterpart in hyperspace that was the inverse of the object in real space. As shown by the purrgill, who was able to travel into hyperspace at will, it is known that hyperspace was a natural phenomenon and not a creation of scientists or engineers.
As early as four millennia ago, the technology of hyperspace travel was developed by early space explorers. It is possible that an ancestor race learned the secrets of travelling via hyperspace at some time in the galaxy's distant history. In legends this was achieved through reverse engineering rakatan hyperdrives 25,000 years before the Clone Wars, although canon is yet to offer us an explanation.
In the early days of the Galactic Republic, hyperspace travel between core planets was complicated by the use of hyperspace beacons to navigate the space between them. Safe passage was guaranteed as a result of this, which necessitated the replacement of Hyperspace beacons to ensure that these lanes did not get blocked.
Most shps used well established hyperspace lanes to ensure that they did not collide with planets, stars or other ships. However, during the High Republic era, a gang of marauders known as the Nihil were able to traverse through hyperspace at breakneck speed thanks to the use of a Path Engine. This allowed the Nihil to appear and disappear via hyperspace in ways that no other vessel could.
Unfortunately, a Nihil stormship collided with a Republic vessel known as Legacy Run. The resultant explosion caused shrapnel from the vessel to exit at near lightspeed at seemingly random points. The Trymant system was particularly hard hit, destroying several moons.
However, crises such as these could be averted through the use of interdiction technology. This technology produced an artificial gravity well that could pull a spacecraft out of hyperspace. After the Great HyperSpace Disaster, the chancellor ordered the interdiction of large parts of the outer rim to prevent an event such as this from happening again.
And thats everything we know about hyperspace so far so far in canon. If you want me to cover some more high republic content, let me know down below. Thanks for watching guys and as always, may the force be with you.
