BIBLE STUDY WITH ME | James 3

Today we are continuing on with our #BibleStudyWithMe series through the book of #James with chapter 3! ✨This chapter holds a special place in my heart because it contains one of the first passages I ever memorized, and it was also one my dad would direct me to growing up if I ever needed a reminder about "taming the tongue." 😬

In this #BibleVideo we are digging into the distinction this chapter draws between the dangers of the tongue, and wisdom from above. These two things produce very different outcomes, and we'll be talking about what those are.

I'm also talking about how God uses Scripture to sanctify us by sharing an example of how the Holy Spirit brought to remembrance a verse we studied back in James chapter 1 in a moment when I was temped to sin.

I think sometimes we forget that we are ALL sinners. It's so easy to criticize others for what they are doing that we may not approve of but we fail to see how many times we mess up and God shows us mercy. Ironically, we are messing up as we are pointing out how other are messing up. Unfortunately, this happens everywhere, but when it happens within the church, it causes division. We forget that when we put down one of God's creation, we are actually putting down, and displeasing God himself. Once thing that spoke to my heart was the connection between trusting God and the way we respond to others and what we say about others. When we trust God, we won't lose our peace by the things that are happening around us. Things that others do won't cause such a stir in our hearts because we trust that God is taking care of the situation. We trust that everything that God allows us to experience is for our good, even if it doesn't feel good at the moment. He uses every situation, every experience, every interaction as an opportunity to build our faith and show our love-it's our choice then how we will respond. Will we show God's love through our words and actions or will we give in to the temptation of bickering, complaining and speaking about one another? We can't say we love God who we can't see when we can't even show love to our neighbor who we can see. Let's learn to love others like God loves us. Trust God to handle the situations that arise. :)

a verse that really stood out to me and convicted me was James 3:9 “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.” it just really opens your eyes to see that when you think you are not offending God when cursing someone you are actually because they were created in His likeness.

I have been working on judgements lately, just recognizing when I do it either in my mind or words, so this is very apropos. I have been reminding myself that God created each of us and loves each of us and in criticizing someone else I am denigrating God’s creation. THAT is so shocking and humbling to me when I think of it like that. I am learning so much studying with you. Thank you for your hard work creating these Bible studies. You are making a positive difference in the world.
