"men with pointy teeth" is so wild to me, like i wouldn't instantly fall in love if a tall, stocky man with shark teeth grinned and leaned menacingly over me, placing his hand on the surface i'm backed up against

The fact that the movie tells you she's the villain from the first scene makes this song even more impactful.
I feel like it would be kinda cheapened if the movie was trying to make a twist. It could certainly work, since the lyrics are a bit subtile to deal with the psychological abuse, but the fact that you're 100% sure about mother's intentions at this point, is kinda agonizing to watch her sing that kind of stuff while silencing Rapunzel completely.

I love it. Anna's version sounds like an overdramatic theater-kid mother who's just caught her kid trying to sneak out to party. I can just imagine her fake gasping while Rapunzel rolls her eyes behind her! 😂

Damn, this cover is good. I know a lot of people don’t really... appreciate this villain but I sure as hell did. She was the most realistic Disney villain to me; the epitome of entitled psycho parent and the very model of toxic femininity all in one song—cutting down a young, innocent girl with “loving” barbs to manipulate and shame her into doing whatever she’s told, gaslighting her into believing she can’t trust anyone but her mother... chillingly accurate to real life.

Logic Brain: Mother Gothel should not be viewed as a charismatic character, especially because she’s manipulating Rapunzel and preying on her inexperience of the outside world throughout the entirety of this song.
