I follow Megabattie and Batzilla the Bat who are rescuers in Australia. Everything you said is in line with what I have learned from them. You did a good job. Another group of flying foxes are tube nosed bats. They are smaller and look like Shrek!

Makes you wonder, if they didn't have to compete with birds, how much could they diversify? Imagine a giant ground bat, analogous to an ostrich, or an acquatic polar bat similar to penguins.

Thanks for the photo credit, id never seen this before. The pic is the mid flight photo on the thumbnail is a "grey headed flying fox" in the sydney botanical gardens. This colonly has since been evicted by local council/government due to damage they were doing to very old trees.

I love bats! I once had the opportunity to visit and get a tour of the Organization for Bat Conservation. My wife and I were considering volunteering with them, but we couldn't find a local doctor to give us the required pre-rabies shots for an affordable rate.
