It's like Dan has a mind of his own and that when he fails and restarts, he forgets. the NPCs remember but it's kind of like a constant loop of playing and starting over and over again.

The fact that even an NPC can remember what happened before the rerun; truly shows what a great storyline this game has. Remind me of the self-aware characters after a reset in Undertale.
