OK thanks for this. I think the reason is that TOSLINK connections are only in one direction. So as the Behringer out goes to the Quantum in, it has to be master. Other way would be to have a second TOSLINK cable going from Quantum to the Behringer (as someone said below) or, use the separate BNC clock connection (either way, the Quantum can be the master then).

Thanks so much. I was scratching my head for 3 hours lol. Now everything works. These settings also work for Presonus 1824c

I have 5 hooked up to a Motu 2408 mk2 and mk3. I hooked both directions on the Ada and Motu. Such as adat out on ada to Motu in and Motu out to ada in. I can clock either way Motu can be slave or master and ada can be slave or master. I have 5 working flawless. You can also jump or loop the adat on the ada by making a loop with adat out to adat in on the ada unit and setting the unit to master and then you can use the analog outs instead of digital outs. Then the ada unit will route the signal from preamp in to analog out.

I was trying to setup the same thing and found that you need 4 cables to connect the ins and outs as without the the outs from the Quantum it cannot send the clock information to the Behringers. I originally had ins and outs connected on one Behringer and only an out on the other Behringer but could only use the second Behringer as the master, once connecting the extra cable I can now choose any configuration from Universal control.

You may have already tried this, but I'll mention it anyway:

When the ADA8200s were in slave mode, did you connect both ADAs with a Toslink back to the "In" input of the Presonus? I mean from the Presonus "out" to the first ADA "in" and then from the first ADA "out" back to the Presonus "in". And the same for the second ADA. So you would need four Toslink cables.

I'm just curious what you've already tried.

If the above doesn't work, I would try the following next:

Presonus "Out" -> first ADA (slave) "In" -> first ADA "Out" -> second ADA (slave) "In" -> second ADA "Out" -> Presonus "In".

Like I said, maybe you've already tried this, so I apologize for asking.

I have the same setup with Presonus 192 mobile, how can I use it in mixing??
How to route pro tools signal to any adat output?

I'm thinking of a similar setup but with the quantum 2626 to get very low thunderbolt latency and a lot of analogue line inputs for a cheap price. The other option is an rme digiface and a ada820 / ferrofish or audient asp800/880. The third option is to bit the bullet with a rme ufx II or III and hopefully it will prove reliable and supported for decades to come. How is your quantum support since it got discontinued? I saw a shootout on drums between RME preamps and ada8200 and I found them either identical of slightly preferred the behringer.

What is your opinion on the Behringer ADA 8200. Just found the ADA 8200 for a very reasonable price (half the price of a Presonus 1824c. and was looking right for what you showed here. A little odd you can't use 48k sample rate, but actually interested in how you find the Behringers preampss vs the Quantum, cause the 1824 ia basically the same interface just with usb-2 and only 1 set of adait io, but it would be a cheap way of getting 16 inputs instead of 8 and would make me able to record a whole band session at once.

I tried this but its making my quantum the main playback engine on protools.

Is there a way to make the other interface your main playback engine

Hi, i see you have reason too on your computer. I hooked up a scarlett 18i20 3rd generation with a behringer ucm 18i20 and use the umc as the slave, but i get sound in my reason daw but nothing comes out of my speakers from the ucm interface. Is it possible to make a video about it with your reason daw? Thanks, Steve

I think it's because you have there 24 channels?

While I'm thinking of it does anyone have any recommendations on ADAT units with higher quality pres? I want to upgrade down the road and will likely do a lot of research before spending the dough but wondered if anyone had any real world experience with any units I should check out. Appreciate it.

There can only be one master clock - either the interface or the pre’s.
