65 year old black woman that sings and plays to this day... Roberta Flack was one of the biggest influences in my highschool and college years. I listened to her while I earned a degree in music 😊😊😊😊😊

Roberta Flack was one of those first voices I heard during my junior and senior high school years. But what truly captured my attention was the fact that she was classically trained, and that she had studied music/piano at Howard! She was my inspiration to apply to Howard! It was because of her. This farewell has all the touches of her life and her music!

“Angelitos Negros” is what I have been listening to for days. I used it for a piece in my Juneteenth event here in Phoenix. I mm paired her recording with an amazing 13 year old black lyrical ballet dancer. The song is a Spanish classic, and presenting Arizonas Black Migration story the song called to me. I am so happy that it blessed the audience and that that young girl will carry the music in her soul. I was a dancer professionally, for many years and worked closely with Quincy Jones, so this last few weeks has been heartbreaking. Rest in Peace Ms Roberta 🌹

Loved her beautiful and calming voice, “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” I met her briefly outside of her home in the Dakota. Heading for Central Park, she was with a friend on their bikes when I said”Hello Ms. Flack, love your music!” She smiled and said “Thank you!” very kindly. I’ll always remember that. Thank you for a wonderful catalogue of work that have made us all happy, well done Ms. Flack!🙏🏽

Roberta Flack was an icon of my life in the 1970s.Her arrangement of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" with the Newark Boys Chorus was, I believe, the greatest of any performance of the song. May She Rest In Peace.

As a 10 year old kid growing up in Nigeria in the 70s, I heard Killing Me Softly and was blown away by that song. I learned the lyrics and wrote them in my notebook and sang it at my big sister’s high school graduation ceremony at her school. Everyone was blown away.
I had been accepted to a high school whose students were present at that ceremony and it launched a local singing career for me into my teens.
Roberta’s version of Killing Me Softly is that song that pulls you in, in an addictive and submissive manner regardless of being a 10 year old that hardly knew the in-depth meaning nor the back story at the time. Her voice, her delivery and interpretation transcends time and makes you come back to listen again and again.
Thank you for the music Roberta Flack and may your soul rest in God’s eternal peace. My condolences to her family and all those whom she touched.

Rest in eternal peace icon, your music lives on. My parents listened to her music in the 70s. I passively listened to her music when I was a baby in the 70s. I now play her music daily somehow I find peace in her melody. Will forever be grateful! Great tribute🙏 from 🇿🇦🇿🇦
