I once knew a gay Amish man. He left his religion and was infinitely happier. Like so many of us gay people, he found his family for himself outside the church.

These are feeling NOT UNIQUE to Amish. I am gay and i went thru the SAME thing coming out, and i cannot live a lie. God made us and he doesn't make mistakes.

I wonder if deeply religious people ever regret the pain, fear, sadness and confusion that religious dogma causes?
I grew up in a devoutly Catholic family. But when I came out to them as a gay man, every single family member expressed their love and understanding to me. They were able to cherish their love of god without doubting their love of me, or mine for them.
Truly moral people, like truly patriotic people, do not swallow the senseless idea that genuine humanity only includes people who obey trivial, ancient mythologies, or people who will defend an unjustified war because a belligerent president demanded unthinking loyalty.
I love people who refuse to hate, and who keep truth as their North Star! You are the true adherents to the wisdom of prophets, and I salute your courage of conviction.

There are certainly enough gay Amish. Working around them in Iowa, I know this. So many gay married Amish men. Yet still get together in secret with others.
I left the Mormon church and never once looked back.

This video is so redundant. How many times do you have to say the same thing over the course of an almost 10-minute video? Most organized religions seek to control their members, often alienating the very people who need our love, understanding, and acceptance the most.

Ugh! This disturbs me so much! Everyone has the absolute right to live their true self no matter what situation or community they may be involved in.
Terrible that family would shun them away.🤬

This is what religion do they separate humanity. And God doesn't like that God wants everybody together in peace and love.

I watched the video mainly out of curiosity. I kinda already knew the answer. I do sympathize with the difficult decision a gay Amish will have to make. On the other hand, I've spent my whole life moving away from people who wanted me to conform, even my own family.

I pray that someday, even if its with the grandchildren of today's newborns, amish will accept gays. Making room for new things and beliefs. Even it means embracing changes of old opinions. Just as the world has been doing since the begining.

It's not only religion ! so easy to blame religion.. It's always relating to community pressures. My mother was not a religious person, and never wanted to see me after she found out I was gay.. I am a very successful Architect and Engineer, and owned a large firm in NY.. My partner of 30 years and I adopted 2 babies, who are our life, and joy.. My dad loved me, my partner and our son's (now 26 and 27). Yet my dad was a Born again Christian.. His church always loved us. Our son's are intelligent, successful, are starting families and live within 2 miles from our home in North East Coastal Florida. We are love and accepted here in our community in Florida. BTW: We originally lived in a suburb of NYC, and those neighbors were not so welcoming...

I was rased in an evangelical, former roman catholic family. I've decided to have no religion at the age 16. Religion is a prision. I'm 50 y.o. now.

I would think this is a personal struggle with in the family and even though Amish, would be different in each case . You would find the Mormons have similar issues and as most, leave the church eventually, albeit probably harder among Amish because their education is slightly behind the normal societal levels. It’s too bad they cannot find better means to speak and get counseling for this! Those that go outside the Amish community, hopefully meet a supportive and helpful gay person from which to decide what they should do for themselves . To have love is a basic need in life!

Anyone who would choose an imaginary space daddy who only rewards you when you are dead over a real human child is beyond stupid. They are cruel and against the very spirit of "God" The amount of death caused by religion is staggering.

How to stretch 15 seconds into ten minutes: nice.

Also, if you enter “picture of Amish boy band” into an AI site, I bet many of those images will come up.

Many years ago, I went to a gay club in Lancaster PA. At midnight that club filled with Amish boys.

Shunning in any religion is an evil anti-Christian act of betrayal against the teachings of Christ

Despite of religion and family values I wish the Amish would grant forgiveness to homosexuals and not shun or drive them out of their community.

It's definitely a lifelong struggle for many who are raised on a religious household. Amish or not, because of other expectations, many choose to live a lie by marrying and having children. In the process, all live miserable lives. That happened to my cousin a few others I know. I chose a different path by being truthful to myself.

If an Amish man in midlife has to leave the community they are at risk of poverty if they become disabled or when they become too old to work for themselves. They may not earn enough or contribute long enough to social security out in the secular world.. Their only recourse would be welfare or food stamps. Even with social security and medicare life can be tough if you have contributed to it all your life. It is a scary prospect.
