In today's world of advanced technology, the Amish population's desire to turn away from modern conveniences remains fascinating. More than just their technology gets held over from the past, though, which becomes apparent when you look at the rules Amish women must follow. Due in large part to their strict interpretation of the Bible, rules for Amish women may seem antiquated to outsiders. For instance, women must be submissive to their husbands, and need to wear plain clothes that cover almost everything. Of course, it's not only women affected by the severe rules in the Amish community. Other practices among the Amish, including shunning members, lack gender exclusivity. Amish teens get a chance to experience life without these rules by going through Rumspringa, however, which lets them see what the modern world can offer. But their everyday life remains very restrictive, especially if they're women.

Amish have fewer conveniences, but they also have fewer problems that modern conveniences entail. Such as exercise, or social media. To name a couple. Not sure if I would want to be so religious, but I would have no problem living simply, on a beautiful farm somewhere, in a close knit community.

I grew up on a farm about 6 miles from an Amish settlement. They are very good, hard working people. To say the Amish practice birth control is wrong. Where I lived there was a road that ran down to a lake. The Amish teenagers would park their horse and buggies down there and do what every other kid in America does. Make out.

Amish marriages are for a husband and and a wife to procreate children. Lots of them. It's easy to we some of these Amish have 10-12 kids. So if you are married in an Amish community you are expected to have children. Men grow their beards after they get married They rarely go to the doctor for anything unless it's something that really needs attention. They don't carry insurance and pay almost everything in cash including hospital bills.

The women are usually buried in their wedding dress when they pass on. They make the dresses themselves. There has been problems with certain sects that marriages are sometimes arraigned and yes, some marry their cousins. It's a tragic even because their children often are born with cretinism. Those traits unfortunately are carried on down the line.

The short of it, The Amish act just like everyone else except for some of the rules and creature comforts that to them who have lived Amish most of their lives so they are used to it.
