I’m 41 and went to Disney world last year for the first time. Dreamt of it my whole life but growing up with an abusive single mom it wasn’t in the cards.

Went on rides kinda feeling awkward but I figured the most important thing was to be thoughtful and respectful to the families attending so as to make sure not to ruin their fun.

But when I saw the Mickey Mouse character with goofy I just broke down crying. The kid in me that longed to connect with the movies and cartoons just let loose with tears of joy.

I know their actors of course but I suspended my disbelief and just had fun.

Nobody made fun of me. Grown ass dudes were like “oh man you’re good, it’s all for fun “

I never went as a child, but as an adult with my kids. When I told them we were going to Disneyland, they started jumping for joy, and then crying for joy. Not gonna lie, it was truly magical. I felt genuine joy, more than I care to admit.
