As a child, you like SpongeBob, as an adult you understand Squidward.

Ariel got really lucky that the prince was a stand up guy.

You usually can't side with the parents, because they're dead.

Ariel is low-key one of the most stress inducing princesses. I never realized as a kid that all her problems was done... By herself, and the movie makes it look like she's good 😂😂😂😂

Ariel is the most realistic teenager in all of animation.

When we're kids we adore Ariel, when we're adult and having family we understand King Triton. He just trying to protect Ariel, even though he kinda harsh. But hey, he's still better than neglectful parents

"But daddy i love him" is a pretty classic line for a teenage girl who thinks they know way more about life and love than they actually do.

"Growing up sucks"
I know but you don't need to make me remember that.

By medieval standards, 16 years old was considered a point where someone could be considered an adult.

Let's not forget Triton destroying her collection, including the gift her friend just got her, and then leaving her sobbing on the ground. Ariel's being irrational, but she's also sixteen and if Triton had realised that and given her space to process her feelings, she most likely would have gotten over it the same way any teenager with a crush on a celeb does. But he chooses to be violent, leaving her emotionally vulnerable and in the right sort of mind to be manipulated by Ursula.

Triton had good intentions, but he had the wrong actions. He should have been patient and explained slowly instead of destroying her collection. Other than that, he was a great dad and still supported her when she actually met the prince and got to know him.

This reminds me of me replaying „Pokemon White“ and wanting to award Bianca‘s father for being the only responsible father in the whole of Pokémon for not wanting his 10 year old daughter to go on an adventure.

They took away some of Ariel’s sass when they left out some of her responses to her dad.

I understood both perspectives as a kid, Triton reacted rashly but I could wrap my young mind around it without an adult.

Fun fact, Greeks commonly were married and considered adults at 16. So here saying she's old enough to get married within the lore is pretty factual.

Triton has a point, but he didn’t need to go to destroying her collection like that. That was going a bit too far and I think even the movie acknowledge that. Growing up you kind of realize that quite a few parents at least the ones who are still live in Disney actually have a point. Except Tremaine

My dad had my brother and I watch Disney movies and write our thoughts down as we grew up and matured. I think when my brother turned 8, his statement for this was "I think she just wants to make babies"

Reminder, Trident may have been right in some points but he still went out of his way to abuse his child verbally and by destroying things that belonged to her in a fit of rage.
