Testing my newly designed and built vertical batten polytarp sail, using my wife Laura's 16' trimaran on Terra Ceia Bay, Florida, Oct 14, 2012. Probably hit more than 12 mph, but that's just a guess since I forgot to bring my GPS.

Testing my newly completed polytarp vertical batten sail, using my wife Laura's 16' home built trimaran. I'm guessing the boat speed exceeded 12 mph, but I can't be sure because I forgot to bring my GPS...

very interesting sail! with the batton on the leech it's similar to a indonesian Tanja sail!

Yes, but it has now been replaced with a larger one. That homemade vertical batten sail pulled much stronger than I was expecting.

Groovy! can you slab reef to the battens?

How are you going to reef it? looks like only way is to disconnect boom and furl it onto the main.

Looks like your amas need a bit more depth ... added buoyancy under wind pressure ..
