upgrading a cheap ($18) keyboard | keyboard mods

I am back from the dead... its been while but I'm gonna try to post more frequently again!! I made this video a loong time ago but finally posting it rn. One of my fav things of the hobby: modding! I always love the process of modding and just looking forward to how its gonna sound and feel after all the mods (and hours spent on it).
For this video (actually just out of boredom) i bought this cheap Ajazz AK680 (with red switches!!) keyboard to mod it and do whatever i want with it. The keyboard after mods actually sounds nice, especially for the price. Would it be my main keyboard? No, but it definitely could be for someone in a budget.

Also note that: when you lube the springs with grease, the grease actually goes down to the bottom of the stem after a while and it will make the switch feel mushy if the grease manages to go down so don’t overlube the springs, this doesn’t happen with oil like gpl105 though

For the first problem, I think one of the main issues for other switches not fit in the keyboard is because of the sockets. Either it’s Outemu or other no brand socket, and they only compatible with switches that has thin metal legs, like: Outemu, Akko, KTT for example. It won’t fit switches that has thick metal legs like Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, etc.

For the foam in the spacebar, they often designed like that to reduce the hollowness and the metallic sound between the plate and PCB, that can be easily hear from the Spacebar. But it didn’t change much imo, as the hollowness of the case is the biggest issue to the overall sound of the keyboard, dampening only at the Spacebar doesn’t change any significant.

My grandmother bought me a keyboard that i really needed for a long time. It was like 20-25 dollars or something but its quite usable. Also the thing is it is hot swappable. But i don't know if i could upgrade it to the extent you were able to do it.

And just 1 months earlier, my grandmother passed away from cancer. So the keyboard is the last thing left that was given to me by her. But now I don't have the heart to open that keyboard.

The Stock version is already better than most keyboards that sell here in Brazil, but the results sounds amazing!

instead of maskin tape, use 3 layers of painters tape, the sound is much crispier

I remember way back in 2017, Mechanical keyboards were ridiculously expensive. Red switches are like 3x more than Blues. I miss these era.
