To turn your backyard into a food jungle, instead of a weed jungle start your no dig garden right now for next year!
Step 1: cut or mow all tall weeds in the space you want your backyard grocery store.
Step 2: lay 1-2 layers of cardboard with all tape removed over your entire grocery store (garden) footprint.
Step 3: lay 6 inches of wood chips in the places you want to walk.
Step 4: lay 6 inches high quality compost in the places you want your food to grow.
Step 5: water deeply with a sprinkler for a few hours to saturate the compost and get the life to start turning it into soil.
Step 6: start all crops you want to eat indoors according to your last frost date in the spring weekly starting in March.
Step 7: plant your grocery store by the 1st week in June or after your last frost date in the spring.
Step 8: water deeply with sprinker 2 hours a week at least, maybe 4 when its hot.
Step 9: pull any weeds once in a while.
Step 10: harvest and eat your food when its ready.
If you feel like any of the above is overwhelming, please take a look at my garden course (7 hours of in depth lessons on all of the above) at the link in bio. I would LOVE to help you!
P.S. My name is Zach and I am a market farmer growing in Cody, WY producing $100,000 of vegetables a year on 1/2 acre of land in 120 day growing season. :)
