Millennial Leadership: Stop Complaining, Start Coaching | Danita Bye | TEDxBismarck

Danita speaks about how millennials want a coach and a mentor rather than a boss. She asks the questions “What are the coaching and mentoring micro-moves that we can make that will have a major lifetime empire state building impact on our millenials?" and "Will YOU be that domino difference?" Danita Bye, M.A. is a leadership and sales development expert. She is the founder of Sales Growth Specialists and has gained valuable leadership experience as a sales leader for Xerox Corporation and in private equity ownership.

Danita served on the boards of private Christian universities. She currently serves on the North Dakota Economic Development Foundation, as well as the North Dakota Petroleum Council. She is a member of the Forbes Coaches Council and is a sales coach for Harvard Business School MBA students. Her headquarters are in North Dakota, but Danita works digitally and her business operates on a global scale.

See if you can catch yourself complaining, in either speech or thought, about a situation you find yourself in, what other people do or say, your surroundings, your life situation, even the weather.

To complain is always nonacceptance of what is.

It invariably carries an unconscious negative charge.

When you complain, you make yourself into a victim.

When you speak out, you are in your power.

So change the situation by taking action or by speaking out if necessary or possible; leave the situation or accept it.

All else is madness.

Who is the Millennial in my life that needs my encouragement? Thanks for reminding us to be intentional in seeking the opportunities to mentor and share our experience.

Growing the next level of leaders is essential in Scaling Up a business. It is also the primary reason why companies get stuck and hit the ceiling. Danita Bye's work on Millennial makes perfect sense. It is good for all parties involved, the mentee, the mentor and the company.Danita thank you for your work on this.

This is a great reminder that by pressing "pause" to share our insights and experience, we achieve more than by simply forging ahead, solo. Thanks, Danita.

This is the focus difference- and yes, it was a focus I learned in 1980 from my mentor. She said, as she looked at me- "You will make aa Difference, you hold such promise!" For over 35 years my speaking messages were that message. I was not a millennial but I knew how to stop. look, listen and smile at those I ran into, spoke to, found in business, saw in schools and yes, Danita- your message is NEEDED AND MUST BE DELIVERED.

I found Danita Bye’ talk on Millennials Matter an inspiring thought, I truly believe that many baby boomers need to take heed, and start walking along side the next generation of leadership, otherwise the private owners legacy could well be lost, and the corporate leader loosing their shareholder wealth. This is a case of win win for both today’s and tomorrow’s leaders. Thank Danita for forfronting this topic

This video was so helpful for me. I have superstar teammate that has had trouble getting results from other team members. Coaching has come up as a way to mitigate the disconnect. Your video spoke directly to us. I have shared it with my team. Thank for your passionate committment. We are right next to the Atlanta airport. We would love to meet you sometime.

So important to not let all you have learned retire when you do. People want to learn, teach them. Share this video and important idea.

Great message here, one to put into play in our daily lives both in the workplace and outside of it in an effort to bridge generational differences.
I love the domino energy effect and feel this analogy is so valid when it comes to coaching and mentoring our millennial workers (and vice versa).
Millennials absolutely matter and I look forward to implementing the reminders and suggestions you so eloquently brought forth!

Fantastic talk, Danita. And when you really get down to brass tacks (to borrow a phrase from "our" generation), didn't we all want what Millennials want? They are just doing such a better job of expressing it...of course, it helps when someone (like you!) interprets it :)

A millenial convinced his mother to do a ted talk to tell the world to invest more in millenials just because (they matter). We all matter, although not all are acting so deserving of others time, care and attention.
