The arrest of the former prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan on charges of corruption triggered nationwide protests, with his supporters being locked in deadly clashes with the army on the streets.

The Guardian's South Asia correspondent, Hannah Ellis-Petersen, explains how the cricket star turned politician has opened a division that threatens Pakistan’s already fragile political stability.

He never said he was anti military. Get your facts right. He was and is anti corruption. He was against military coup. He believes in democracy. Where on earth does guardian get these ill informed reporters from.

The Guardian has a strange agenda against Imran Khan. A man who fights against decades of dynastic, corrupt politics and stands for democracy. Yet for some reason the Guardian tries to smear him whenever possible. Really disappointing for a newspaper that claims to report the truth and for those without a voice.

Wow!! This what passes as news at the Guardian

1.) Imran Khan didn’t come to politics after sports, he came to philanthropy.

2.) He was never initially against the military

3.) The military didn’t detain or harass his opponent (outside of Benazir Bhutto). Nawaz Sharif was exposed in the Panama Papers, Asif Zardari in the Contectna Case, both outside of Pakistan.

4.) Divisive? Saying Imran Khan is divisive is like Mandela was divisive.

Support the democracy of the people of Pakistan. What is happening now is unacceptable. US, UK, and EU governments are silent about injustice in Pakistan, they didn’t condemn the arrest of Imran Khan, because they don’t want Imran Khan to become Prime Minister. Stop the double standard, and support the people’s choice. Democracy in Pakistan is under attack.

The role of the military in a nation is to protect its people against foreign threats, not to govern

Every common man living in Pakistan is with Imran Khan, we are bare handed and clear mind, supporting Imran khan. he is our national leader
People sitting in government are manipulating the entire scenario. Pakistanis are not on the street for violence, they are on streets for their right to choose their own leader and save their country .

Far from Khan being a divisive figure, in fact he is the only person in Pakistan, who is popular across all ethnicities and factions..

What a poor superficial analysis by the guardian…didn’t mention that 70% of the new govt of 13 political parties are indicted criminals including the PM shebaz Sharif whose first month in power was to change the laws and give themselves immunity from the courts. In addition we have a convicted declared absconder in Nawaz Sharif who is running his brother’s govt by remote control from London, who also handpicked and appointed the current chief of army who had retired and now backs his party to the hilt in defiance of the people. IK is one man who is standing in the way of this whole corrupt sham democracy.
