Just to show how well regarded the NEDC range is - it”s unofficial name for what the acronym stands for is “Not Even Damn Close”
EPA is still the gold standard for range testing, with WLTP the next best.

The Mercedes EQS manages above 500km on German Autobahn Speed of 150-180km/h.
And has a 110kwh battery.
So I think the Mercedes is on top.
NEDC is just not realistic.

Why do so many contemporary cars adopt a hunchback profile? There is no reason to make the rear side windows smaller than the front. It inhibits visibility.

All EV's range should be measured in the WLTP cycle for the most accuracy, so if it's 1, 000km NDEC we know its going to be well under 1, 000km.

Just chucking bigger batteries in to achieve range isnt ideal, efficiency is pretty much ignored atm apart from a few like aptera,
As electricity prices start to go up and Gov want to claw back some of the lost revenue from tax on fuel the efficiency number will become more important than all out range,
Bigger batteries weigh more and will be less efficient for it.

As long as charging times are fast enough and range is ok and of course charging infrastructure is there a small efficient vehicle will do.

That's what they said about the EA1 - 1, 000km range. That now looks less likely. Similarly I'd reserve judgement until proper testing on the range can be done. It would be great if this was true, but if this was the case, what special sauce do these Chinese EV makers have that others don't? Why don't all EVs have 1, 000km range if it's so achievable at an affordable price?

If that GAC crossover's claims are correct, or as you say more like 800km, then it will be viewed as a disruptor here in the US to ICE cars.

We already are making it near impossible to import these cars with our high tariffs so I can imagine the car and fossil fuel lobby in our government not wanting to see this on our roads.

I'd personally like to see it here and at a decent price. It would give me more choices to pick from.

nio can develop a 1000 km solid state battery with a short life cycle that can be charged only a few times and then replaced because nio promote swiping batteries.
