Could lose custody of the child. If there’s enough negligence to sue, then the state has enough proof of negligence to take the child through the child welfare court system.

Nothing to lose?? Come on now! What about when the parents' premiums go up because they got into an accident with an injured party causing medical and mechanical payouts?! Or the points on their license?! I'm just saying there's a little to lose.
