I was playing mincraft the other day I saw this weird portal looking thing after the nether update and it wasn't even on land it was underwater I truly thought it was strange cuz it was underwater

I personally think ruined portals are a sign that many years ago, there was a system. That system could have been where supplies were transported from the overworld to the nether and from the nether to the overworld. There are 2 possibilities to why this system stopped.  

#1: Because ruined portals have netherack all around it, it's possible that the nether is like a disease, and it's spreading around the overworld. But it only spreads when the portal is open, so the portals were eventually closed off. Unlike most fungi, it takes a while for it to spread, but the nether probably takes years for it to spread.

#2: If we continue to use the theory that it was once a system, the ancient builders could have been a part of it. But overtime they started dying down to the point where most of their systems that they had are dying down. Because of that, they closed the portals, leaving everything to fall apart.

As for crying obsidian, my guess is that its basically just normal obsidian that got super old to the point where it started cracking, has a glow to it, and it's crying purple liquid. I'd like to talk more about the nether update, but I'd be taking the fun out of people who want to figure out the lore for themselves.

I haven't played Minecraft for a long time and didn't know the new updates and when I started playing again in survival I saw this near my spawnpoint then I freaked out and searched this up

This is actually pretty cool, as it shows the ancient race of builders (supposedly the ones who built the temples and stuff) did go to the Nether, with something horribly wrong happening after, and it shows how the player character, either Steve or Alex, could've learned how to build one.

Well the loot I found in my first Nether ruin were two flints, two golden apples, an enchanted golden shovel, a fire charge, enchanted golden leggings and boots and two obsidian blocks. Pretty good find to me.

It creeps me out when i saw this in my world. I thought it was haunted world like..who could possibly make it. So it turned out.. That it was part of the update

I found a Broken Portal in the mountains. Insane finds. I found iron nuggets, enchanted diamond axe, etc

I used one of these and came to the nether. But the portal was nowhere to be seen. I couldn't find it so i was trapped in the nether. '-'

I’ve been playing for 7 years but this update gave new things to discover that has me running back to google like the old “how to craft -“ days!

I have a few theories myself on how these portals have a role in the lore of Minecraft.

Theory 1: Maybe the Nether is an infection of some sort. The builders built these portals over time for transportation purposes, but then the Nether started to leak into the Overworld. Out of fear that this would spread to the rest of the Overworld, the portals were dismantled, and were abandoned many, many years ago. If the ancient builders were still alive, they'd probably warn us not to open a portal to the Nether.

Theory 2: Perhaps, because these portals were built so long ago, they were unstable. The portal frames couldn't handle the job of holding open a gateway between dimensions, and tore themselves apart, leaving a small bit of the Nether in the Overworld. Perhaps when a portal spawns in the Nether, it is only temporary, and therefore blew itself apart before there was any chance of a small part of the Overworld leaking into the Nether, hence why we don't see similar structures in the Nether. Not even obsidian blocks, since the individual blocks of obsidian were blown into pieces far too small to use.

Theory 3: Perhaps when the portals were first built, curiosity got the best of the ancient builders, and they stepped through. Huge mistake, as they stepped through unprepared for what was waiting for them on the other side. This nearly cost them their lives, and to protect their people (and out of fear that these dangers would follow them through to the Overworld) they broke off as many pieces of the portal frames as they could, and from that point on, constructing a portal to the Nether was strictly forbidden by the rulers of the ancient civilization.

Yo, I used your fishing tips and got 5 enchanted fishing poles in 15 minutes. One had 3 unbreakable and luck of the sea 3.
