Well I don't know about the gaokao as a whole but when it comes to technical engineering aspects I doubt that there is any exam more difficult than the JEE. The JEE advance or the IITJEE exam is 6 hours long in a single day . Moreover the exam has only a passing percentage averaging around 0.7 % . To pass the exam you need to qualify the cutoff of both the exams (obviously) and you also need to qualify the separate cutoff of each subject .

Gaokao has simuliar difficulty level to jee advance but SAT is not on par with mains also
