In this fourth of six videos on helping you build your art website I am talking about structuring your navigation menus, understanding page content and introducing Calls To Action.

The first three videos contain a lot of basic information sop it may be an idea to go have a look at those then come back and watch this one:

Navigation: I talk about the importance of organizing your navigation with your most important pages towards the top and also introducing the Hamburger icon for mobile devices.
Additionally i also talk about helping your visitors navigate using text links inside your written words (your content). I also mention sub-menus as a way of handling more items in your navigation.

Page structure: laying out your pages is very important so give thought to adding plenty of text where you can and also include images. Visitors like to look at both pictures and words so where you can I would advise that you put both in. It is also important that you give your page a proper title and that it matches what you talk about in it or the subject matter contained within it.

Calls To Action: having a clear simple message is critical so that your visitors know what you are about and what you do right from the start. Every page you create should follow this principle of being clear and easy to work out.

Calls To Action simply refer to the parts of the page that you want a visitor to take action - perhaps you want them to click a button or submit an form or email address? Making your intentions clear helps your visitors understand if this is the the right kind of thing they were looking for.

I really enjoyed the four segments that you had for web development, but was disappointed because it said it was a series of six. Did the other two not get recorded or are they perhaps not connected to this playlist or perhaps not labeled correctly. I’d really like to hear the rest of what you have to say. I can see episode four was done two years ago so it’s not likely that episodes five and six are just right around the corner. I hope you can shed some light on this.
