Before he became the world’s most famous whistleblower, Edward Snowden enjoyed a privileged position in an important government agency. He was earnestly committed to that the duties he and his colleagues performed. In addition to a successful, fulfilling career, he had an enviable life in Hawaii. Add to this the risk of losing it all, and one might wonder what motivated Snowden to expose the illegal surveillance activities performed by the NSA. Here Snowden describes the higher commitment he felt. As he puts it, “you have to have a greater commitment to justice, than you do a fear of the law.”
