The eleventh in a series of fourteen films to star Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as the Twentieth Century's most iconic iteration of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, respectively.

When a number of attractive women are found dead and with fingers missing, Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) investigate. Though evidence points to a psychotic killer, Holmes begins to believe that there's more to the case than initially meets the eye, a notion that leads him to uncover the involvement of his archenemy, Professor Moriarty (Henry Daniell). Who is working with Moriarty on such a dastardly plot and what are their motives?

This feature is presented in restored high definition with no advertisement breaks, as it deserves to be seen.

When I feel the world is too much I love watching these older films. The respect shown to others is so refreshing. Seeing a police Officer on the beat is a wonderful thing. It needs to be brought back. At the beginning officers can be seen leaving the Yard to start their beat. Happy days.

After watching all the sherlock films...I've noticed the "femme fatals" are stunning looking women...

Great series, and without the profanity and filth of modern shows.

The actor that originally portrayed Professor Moriarty also played other roles in the series in Sherlock Holmes in Washington. he was William Easter and in Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror he was Anthony Lloyd. I really loved the original actor George Zucco (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes). If you read about his life it seems health issues might have played a role in the decision to recast. But you have to read between the lines of Wikipedia,

Knowing nothing about hypnotism, can hypnotism prevent the flow of blood if a needle is thrust through your hand? 48:58

Professor James Moriarty, what a dastardly fellow was he!

I feel this Moriarty doesn't go as hard as the one from "The secret weapon"
I feel like he's more inconspicuous, the actor who plays him already plays a few other characters here, so he's nothing unique or anything.

I wonder how many people fell asleep in the theater during the hypnotism scenes?

“What are you looking at Mr. Holmes? A very handsome woman.” Just noticing how things are so different not only for the times but also the culture. 7:53

21:41 it took me a while but her voice reminds me of Dorothy McGuire's. I wonder if this is the Mid-Atlantic Accent that Cary Grant was famous for.

New apartment set apparently. The door also opens into the hallway, which is a strange design choice.

The Commissioner is barely tall enough to open the window… 😂😅 2:28

“So am I too”….54:30
I found this quite interesting as a way of expression. Not how we speak today.

Man, compare Basil's performance here to the earlier films (even the first one). He really mellowed out and almost seems sullen, indifferent, uninterested in this film, which is a shame. He was obviously having fun in Hound. I think he'll get his bounce back a bit in Terror by Night.
