'Can't read a book': Bill Gates on limitations of artificial intelligence

Highlighting the inaugural edition of Mint Visionaries, billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates spoke about the increasing deployment of artificial intelligence in various fields. Computer's speech recognition is slightly better [than human's]?
That's a bold statement. Speech recognition without an understanding of the context cannot be better or even close.
The automatic subtitle is an example, it's plugging in absolutely irrelevant words so often, that in most cases it renders them useless.

i wish bill gates had made his own ai robot. the bad thing about robots is that none of them show any basic rudimetary level of intelectual capacity in dialog. what i expect is a robot that actually seem to coordinate in acordence with input as if its showing signs of intelligence by basic awareness. we don't need human level yet, just that the machine can dig up a memory when confronted with a situation and use that memory to confirm its relation with particular situation. let say you take the robot to the shopping center then let is observe, then take it back home and then show a children book of pictures of different things. if the machine can respond by saying it was in a shopping center at let say yesterday at descibed time when it entered by seing a picture of a shopping center in that book for children, then it shows signs of intelligence that its actually thinking in a basic way. most of the crap on the market now can't even do this.
