Hi everyone! I'm an American from the Northeast (New England). I want to create a watering hole for people who want to discuss, learn and teach about history through YouTube videos which you guys recommend to me through the comment section or over on Discord. Let's be respectful but, just as importantly, not be afraid to question any and everything about historical records in order to give us the most accurate representation of the history of our species and of our planet!

Also my TikTok :)

Although the largest group to "self-identify" in the US is often quoted as German, ancestry studies indicate that there are far greater numbers of English descendants than German or any other European group. This is perhaps because almost everyone after a couple of generations is "mixed" in one way or another, and it tends to be the case that if a person is, say 7/16ths English, 3/16ths Scottish, 2/16ths Irish, 2/16ths German and 1/16th each of Swedish and Danish, they will self-identify as either "American", or in many cases Irish-German, or just Irish or German.

The largest ancestry group in the US is British however many americans just put "American" on census. I suppose this isnt surprising when many have been there for 2-300 years plus. German is next.

Here in the UK Americans note that even though we have a relatively mild climate in winter it gets dark early like in Canada zIn

Largest self identified European ancestry group is German but by absolute numbers its English as most English Americans identify as 'American', a look at historical census figures and historical immigration shows that, plus the census bureau also states the same

Regarding arts & humanities for leaders, I'm guessing he thinks it's positive more for the humanities than the arts. I can understand this perspective since studying the humanities often encompasses study of the classics, philosophy and history (although history is also considered a social science) and this is generally the kind of education many historical rulers would receive, along with other areas of education.

The Roman empire (or what remaind of it) did coexist with the mongol empire. This channel (not yours McJibbs) is sub par.

Hmm I commented but can't see it. Strange.
These maps are interesting. I will say that in the UK our education background of the person in charge will be for the prime minister I'd hope. Especially since the Queen was educated at home. Charles was the first to be educated in boarding schools and university.

There is a tendecy in the US for certain groups to self identify more strongly than others, this can because they were relatively recent, or live in culturally distinct groups. There is no English American group, but DNA profiles show it to be the most widespread with 44% having English ancestry, of course that includes a lot of African American people too. Basically English ancestry is either mixed up so much with more recent immigration or its from so long ago, predominantly English Americans just call themselves Americans. President Biden is a good example, he says he is Irish, and on his mother's side he mostly is, though with some other European ancestry. On his father's side though, one of his great grandparents had some Irish ancestry, but essentially his father was a typical American, mostly English with a mixture of others, the Biden's came from Suffolk, but will never hear him talking about that English Ancestry.

I'd have thought he bigs up Arts & Humanities because they ultimately teach empathy, which is more likely to produce a "nice" leader.

Rhode Island is perhaps among the very worst States in the USA.
After Delaware, West Virginia and Mississippi, Rhode Island is in the top 5 of worst states in the union.
