How to Teach Your Dog to Swim.

In today's video, I'm going to be explaining and demonstrating how to safely teach your dog how to swim.

1) Start off by teaching leash pressure.

2) Pick up a swim vest for your pup.

3) Get in the pool and use the leash pressure to help the dog get into the pool by the steps. You can also carry the dog into the pool. Remember, you want to make the experience as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

4) Once the dog is comfortable getting into the pool, then you will assist from outside of the pool using the leash pressure. First by the steps and then all other surrounding locations.

5) Now we can start playing with our dogs in the pool. If they seem like they are doing well with the vest, you can now take the vest off and have them swim without the additional gear.

6) Final note; If you ever want to take your dog paddle-boarding, or swimming in a lake, basically anywhere with deep water. Always have a vest of your dog, no matter how good of a swimmer your dog is.

Sometimes it helps to get that dog wet before introducing him to the pool. It reduces the strange feeling of gradually getting wet in dogs that are little more unsure. Our girl fell of waterfall when she was 3 months old. Getting her wet before we asked her ho follow us into the water made a huge difference.

Brilliant. Much better than how I taught mine. We played and splashed around in the shallow part first. Then gradually deeper until the ball went out enough to make him swim for only a few seconds - than further till he was confident :)
