Why should we want to go to Mass? Chris Stefanick and Catholic priest Father John Riley discuss that the Last Supper is made present in a mysterious way. Topics include what it’s like for a priest to celebrate the Mass, how lay Catholics can prepare for Mass, and how the Mass transcends space and time.

I left the Catholic Church in 1979. I studied and went to Bible college and seminary and pastored Assemblies of God Churches for 39 years. But....at retirement I felt empty. Why? I missed the reverence of the RCC. I began to study those Scriptures again that spoke of the Eucharist, in addition, I began an intense study of early Church history. The result? I must "confess" That the Catholic Church is in fact the true Church. By no means am I saying that if you are not Catholic you are damned to hell. What I am saying is if you sincerely want to be as close as possible to how the early church worshipped you should strongly consider the Catholic church. If you do nothing else, study the Bible and church history for yourself and then make your decision. I also urge you to sincerely pray.

Attending a Catholic Mass is like being invited to The Last Supper with God and His apostles. Receiving Him in Holy Communion is the most beautiful, powerful and intimate union we can have with Him while on earth. Beautiful Faith!!!

Father's tip - do the readings before the Mass - I used to think that was unnecessary. But recently, one morning I did this. Father is right! My anticipation of the readings drew me in as I heard them in Mass and impacted me greatly. I am making this a new habit. Thanks for this presentation!

"The Mass is the sacrifice of Calvary perpetuated, re-presented, continued, on all the altars in the Mystical immolation of Jesus Christ." - St. Peter Julian Eymard, Apostle of the Eucharist

Absolutely the best way to explain mass and what happens there. I especially liked the priest's comment about God brushing away time and space. I have always felt that we are truly present at the Cross because His sacrifice on the Cross broke through time and space so we could be there. And we are--at Mass. As far as being bored. When I was young I could get bored. As a child I was constantly asking my mother when it would be over. As a much older adult I am in awe of the Mass and what is happening there. I could never go to a protestant Sunday service and get anything out of it. They are just plain DULL! A few prayers, and few hymns and a long talk about a verse or two from the bible. The Bible is all. Occasionally they will have their idea of communion, usually a symbol only kind of thing. Not the real deal! Glad I am Catholic and have come to a more understanding of the Mass and what is going on there. The only true worship to God.

I noticed the priest at the consecration says it differently than a Protestant minister. I’m not an English major, so I looked up the tense used by the priest. It’s the Future-Progressive Tense i.e. “ In the future, I will be playing tennis.” “ This is my body which, WILL BE, given up for you”. This event is on going and it puts the priest hours before ( back to the last Supper) the real event, that has yet to happen. and will be happening in the future, every time a priest calls down Jesus… like when Jesus told the Apostles, what was going to happen to him very shortly. The sacrifice is always ON GOING. Protestant language always says “ is given “ the body of Jesus is given to you. Sorry, maybe I’m way out in Space on this!

Excellent summary, thank you. “Divine power casually brushes aside space and time”… The football game analogy too is a helpful one - No spectators!

Riley..When Jesus said in John6:53..Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Riley...if Jesus meant it literaly...HOW ARE YOU GOING TO LITERALLY EAT JESUS FLESH AND DRINK HIS BLOOD WHILE HE WAS STILL ALIVE?!?!TELL ME HOW..?! YOU CAN'T RILEY!! UNLESS 200-3OOO YEARS LATER THE CATHOLIC CHURCH GIVES A "SPECIAL PRIEST" SOME UNKNOWN POWERS GREATER THAN THAT OF MICHAEL THE ANGEL AND SERAPHIMS TO BRING JESUS DOWN FR9M HIS

Ovcourse is symbolic.Jews were forbidden to drink blood plus this is cannibalism. Also in Hebrews It’s written that Jesus died and suffered on the cross only once.He is not suffering any more. When Jesus said that He is the gate or the way He did not mean literally .There is so many verses proving that this is not what He meant literally. His word is our spiritual food. I could go on and on.

The Bible is the inspired word of God.

1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

Luke 1:46-47 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior

Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
1 Corinthians 10:4 “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”
1 Samuel 2:2 “There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.
Mark 7:7. “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”

2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
1 Timothy 4:3 “Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.”
2 Timothy 3:15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Better to be a born again Christian.
