Even though the CX-5 bodystyle is unchanged since the 2017 model..Mazda has made continual improvements to keep the 2020 Mazda CX-5 near the top of the compact crossover class and still competitive with more expensive luxury brands. Aside from more torque, Mazda added extra noise deadening, changes in trim level features, and more attention to detail.

Thanks for the great & thorough review! I bought my 2020 GTR today & am so stoked that I did my research & found this baby!! I've been a die-hard BMW fan forever & was leaning toward the X3 or Audi Q5. But in the end I just couldn't justify paying their prices when this car has everything I wanted. I love the stiffer driving feel (steering wheel), feeling so connected to the road & the fun driving experience. And it's much quieter and a smoother drive than my 328i sport that I just traded in. And ventilated seats for this girl living in deathly hot Arizona right now is a huge bonus. Run & check out this crossover ASAP!

Here are a few of my gripes from personal experience. The media center is SLOW when you first turn on the car. If you play some video from your phone over bluetooth, there is noticeable delay in the sound vs the video on your phone ( of course this is while you're the passenger). The rear view camera resolution is grainy too. There is no remote start option, you can only add it later, the wheels feel too narrow cornering fast. In my opinion, some wider wheels would have made it more manageable during fast corners. Overall we love this car don't get me wrong, it's a hell of a bang for your buck. We looked at even the RAV4 and this was by far the best bang, you get all the options for $36-38k whereas with the RAV4 it will easily go into the $40k's with all the options plus the Mazda is way more luxurious and fun. Honestly, if you're looking buy a CX-5, get the Reserve or Signature (if you can afford it), it's so much fun to the point I tend to use more than my wife does lol. The regular one is too sluggish and might as well get the RAV4 if you want boring.

I like the paddle shifters but they need brushed aluminum covers. "Soul Crystal Red" is what US hot rodders call "Candy Apple Red".
HINT: ALI Express sells a lot of VERY nice trim pieces for the new CX 5. 
For my 2019 CX 5 GT Reserve 2.5 L. Turbo, AWD I got a brushed stainless 3 pedal set W/ rubber inserts, brushed chrome covers for the seat controls, glove box handle and door handle surrounds. Also polished stainless exhaust tip extensions. Yes, it's all Chinese made and you wait at least a month for delivery but it is all good quality and very inexpensive for that quality. I also got two hood gas struts from them to replace my "low rent" prop rod. Looks and works great. That's all the "bling" I'm getting.
Look at the HKS exhaust system. Better than the Cork Sport B/C it actually increases the power IF you upgrade the air intake filter with a K&N. I may get it. Cork Sport does have the best intercooler & pipe replacement kit made. Great quality and design and more power, natch.

Great car as far as driving and handling, but they need to fix the resolution of the backup camera and modernize the outdated infotainment system before I would consider it.

Great Review. I like this vehicle. I hope Mazda updates the gauges and information screen on the redesigned version whenever that debuts.
