Why are there Preparations for a PET Scan?

When arriving for an appointment there are many factors that can contribute to the ease and quality of images captured during a PET Scan procedure. With the specialty doses used during a PET Scan, there are requirements for when one must arrive and what you can eat or drink prior to your appointment.

The Preps:

1) Do not eat or drink anything for 4 hours prior to your appointment, except for plain water!

2) Do not eat or drink anything caffeinated or exercise for 24 hours prior to your appointment

3) Please bring any prior notes, reports, and scans from your doctor to your appointment

4) Leave your metallic fashion or clothing at home
