Trump Spent Millions Changing The White House

Since the White House changes occupants pretty frequently, each president has spent loads of money redecorating the building, which is estimated to be worth about $400 million. Donald Trump has spent the most of any president so far-- almost $2 million for things like wallpaper, rugs, gold decor, and a $13,000 conference table. But Barack Obama spent only a little less, while others like George W. Bush have spent $500,000 on formal china, and Bill Clinton spent over $300,000 on just one room. Some of the Trump Administration’s most notable changes include renovations to the White House grounds, like when Melania Trump helped design a brand new Rose Garden and 1,200-square-foot tennis pavilion. The First Lady even made changes to the White House’s historic bowling alley.

Some of these presidents pay out of pocket, especially when it comes to redecorating the private residence. Historical foundations sometimes also foot the bill, like for when Michelle Obama spent over $400,000 restoring historic Bellangé furniture from 1817. The White House is filled with expensive antiques and even strange rooms that you might not even know exist, like a game room and 42-seat family movie theater where presidents can request any movie they like. The building also has an entire room full of expensive china, and another full of priceless silverware. Here’s a look inside the White House under the Trump Administration, as well as the incredible amount of money and work that past presidents have dedicated to redecorating.

First Lady Jackie Kennedy was appalled by the condition of the White House. She restored it's grandeur.

Jackie Kennedy did the best redecorating. She came from the upper class and well versed in European elegance. No one has ever been like her.

There needs to be a divide between the upkeep, updating, and restoration of the White House and its furnishings and the redecorating to someone's personal taste.

Jackie Kennedy and an amazing team brought the White House into shape and historic conditions in the 60’s. An extensive search and recovery of many of the previous items were returned and repaired. Has any of her efforts remained?

They really should only get to touch the private personal areas, everything else should be done by a committee that stays the same and has no affiliations.

"Construction on the President's home began in 1792 but since then it's gotten plenty of re-models..." Like in 1814 when the British burned it down.

Jackie Kennedy was by far the most classy First Lady. When she remodeled the White House she raised the funds to do it and did a beautiful job, such exquisite taste.

What happens to the furniture and decor pieces that each President pays for out of pocket, does it stay in the White House or do they take it with them when they leave?
With inflation it’s no surprise that redecorating gets more expensive

This lavish spending is deplorable. Excess is typical of wealth.

So unnecessary to remove that beautiful garden. So selfish and shows how out of touch the family is.

As a disabled veteran I go to the VA hospital every month. There is always a large photo of the current president in all federal buildings. During trumps presidency he had his picture removed twice because he didn’t like it. It cost the tax payers millions to redistribute that picture to all federal facilities. Every time I passed it in the hallway I always gave him the ONE-FINGERED-SALUTE!
