My absolute favorite topic I find this religion very interesting. George has a very curious mind

The only religion that feels fake (in-world) is the faith of the seven. All others have real feats of magic.

The real question for GRRM is: Do ppl have an affinity to certain magic because of the gods they worship, or do they worship certain gods because of their affinity to the magic they possess?

Important note: Their magic only started working (again) AFTER the dragon's where reborn. Just like the glass candles started working again only after dragons returned to the world. But the faceless men for example have not changed since the return of dragons. So one magic is tied to dragons and one isn't in this example.

Even though we know basically nothing about it, I still think it would be pretty cool to learn more about the religion of the pale child! It’s a shame they haven’t explored it a bit more

I'd have read what R'hallar can do though his servants.

>Beric was brought back about seven times.

>If a servant can read the vision then he shows them the future.

>He keeps the Red Priestess hot, she never gets cold, not even at the wall.

>He grants magic to his servants, especially glamour (Mance as the Lord of Bones and Davos' knuckle bones, this one I don't understand what it was designed to do, but she stated it was done in her last chapter in ADoD 1)

>He allows his servants the ability to control shadows.

>I assume they can't be burnt because of their relationship with R'hallar.

>It's possible if she is seen by a White Walker then she will become his focus, to ensure she can't be used as a weapon against them.

The seven seem to be a fake religious system designed to control a kingdom, there is evidence for this through the Poor Fellow army and the Sparrow, especially how he treats people.

I've been devolving a theory about the collapsed area of the crypt, it goes:

When the 13th Lord Commander, a Stark according to Old Nan, became the Night King and he died, along with his Queen he was placed in that part of the crypt, it sealed off and the previous Lord Stark passes on the rule to never to clear and restore that part of the crypt.

That's what the White Walkers are coming for, their King and Queen, that's why Melisandre will sacrifice herself to make Long Claw the legendary sword Lightbringer, with Jon making his dream a reality.

But the wall will fall, leaving Winterfell to be the last line of defence in the Battle for the Dawn.

The Horn of Winter will be blown and the Starks will rise to guard the crypt from Wights and White Walkers from taking the Night King and Queen from there, which is the statues/ghosts actual duty.

Now it's possible with hot springs, sulphur mud pools and heated greenhouse, that there could be a Dragon hidden under Winterfell, one that's asleep waiting for the Lost Targaryen Prince to wake it up and lend its fire to them, but that might be a bit much for the story.

You're not considering their magecraft enough. It makes sense to raise your own priests so that your secrets don't get leaked by spies or men who simply feel like teaching.

We know from the Melisandre POV text that she believes the Red God to be real and that it (in the past) provided her with insight and magic power. She now relies on blood magic because whatever R'hllor is, it is disinclined to help her.

If it was all magic dressed up to give the appearance of divine miracles, why would one of its most senior and practiced priestesses draw a clear distinction between her magic and the power of the entity? And why have her surprised by the resurrections if she knew they were just blood magic?

Extremely fascinating. Your decision to split them into parts was right

I mean it certainly holds water saying that the magical abilities of the priests of R'hollor should not be attributed to the god, but in my own opinion I see the religion as an excellent medium through which one can make sorceries and magic more universal and tolerated in the world of asoif. Even if R'hollor doesn't deserve the credit for the feats his priests perform, it is undeniable that through the common people's eyes a religion like that would have an impact on the way they see magic, for better or for worse.

I feel like some of the narrow or extreme Westerosi perspectives on the Red God are influenced by western medieval views of Islam. The whole “Red Rahool” label has always makes me think of how Europeans would say Muslims were “Mohammedans”.

It'd be interesting if Melisondre wasn't really that old but her use of blood/fire magic aged her body prematurely. Thus requiring her to wear the choker in order to glamor everyone into seeing her young form.

Thank you so much for still coming through with these awesome informative videos. Personally I’ve only read 3 books so far and I’m still lost on what’s going about the lord of light so this video really cleared up some questions I had.

If Mellisandre really serves the Lord of Light why is she a shadowbinder, a magic user specializing Shadows?

I'd like to believe that The Faceless Men are in the right when it comes to "Who's god is the right god?" Mainly because by indirectly worshiping every god in the world as various aspects of one god they're bound to get it right somewhere.
