I bought my first mk5 gti 2 months ago and I love it. Its got 205, 000 and runs great. I'm going to hook it up with a cts catback and cold air intake. I want that sound. I'm 60 yrs old and this car makes me feel 20 again. Thank you for that video. Keep up the good work

I've got the very first version of the FSI pushing 350000km, original engine, original turbo. Very reliable cars.

I have a 2006 with 258, 000 km in mint condition that is super reliable and all original. Absolutely love driving it every time I get in it, awesome build quality and superb ride with plants of power if you need it . MK V GTI'S are the best, great video.

I've had my 2007 GTI for a year now. Put 30, 000miles on it in my year of ownership. The poor thing had a previous owner in the form of a high school kid, which means the car was abused, and poorly maintained. I probaby spent $3k putting everything to how it should be, which is to say: perfect. I had to replace the turbo, radiator, timing belt kit, valve cover with the gasket, PCV valve, cam chain and tensioner, oil filter housing, several vacuum lines, MAP sensor, MAF sensor, and a full exhaust system since he cut the old one out. But with this all done, the car drives beautiful, and really really moves. I'm Uni Stage 1 right now, after I'm done doing rust repair, shes going stage 2 with the downpipe. I love the damn thing and it has over 170, 000 miles on it.

This is a good video. The thing that would make it great is a lapel mic. I like the topics covered and the inspiration incorporated

I have a 02 mk4 Gti 1.8t 240, 000 miles 5speed. Ko4 turbo Stage 2 tune upgraded clutch koni coilovers vinyl wrapped and much more. Car has never left me stranded. DSG is amazing dont get me wrong. But nothing close to the feel of a manual transmission.

My last car was a MK5 GTI, and it really was a very lovely machine. My main issue with it had to do with the self-adjusting clutch mechanism in the slave cylinder/throw out bearing. If you did a rev-matching downshift where you have to rev fairly high (4k+), about 1/10 times the clutch pedal would stick down and you would have to pop it up with your foot. I brought it to so many mechanics. I bled it so many times, swapped the master cylinder, removed the fluid limiter that slows down how quickly it engages, you name it. The only thing left was a slave cylinder, which would require pulling the entire bell housing off and would probably have taken 5+ hours of mechanic time just to get to, and if you're doing all that you had better swap the whole clutch, and even then you aren't guaranteed that that will fix the problem if it's crank endplay, which is basically a "throw the engine away" problem.
I loved how it handled, how smooth the power came on, how easily I could balance the snap oversteer to have fun on twisties, but without a happily functioning clutch the whole car was always just 1 pop away from pissing me off ;(
Now I drive a BMW 135i and need to trail break into corners I used to just drop the hammer on with the GTI. The steering is much stiffer on my hydraulic assisted rack (2012) and transmits a lot more information to the wheel, but the gearing isn't as nice and without a LSD the car can't do a burnout or maintain a powerslide or anything. The GTI was just as fun, and if I had one that never gave me a clutch issue, I would still be driving it today.

I agree the car is perfect when you are mechanically understanding. My car is cheap, the parts are cheap, and the car is amazing when you do the maintenance yourself and couldn't ask for a better car!!! Thanks

2006 first run FSI. 157K miles. Stage 1 APR since 500 miles. Everytime I take it for a drive, I run it out to red line a few times. I drive it spiritedly, but don't abuse it. Mobil 1 every 5k miles. Original K03 and DSG. Exterior paint is trash but I'm amazed with everything else. I will never sell this car because it is so fun

I’m going to buy an 07 gti 4d 100k miles tomorrow — after the pre-purchase inspection, I’m excited! Upgrading from a 99 explorer 😅

they are really good cars. my dads tfsi mk5 has gone past 252000 miles and still pulls hard, only thing we had to replace was the dsg. we bet it could go out to 360k before it gets too many problems, but my brother bought it from him.

if you want a car that runs like a well made ak, gets amazing fuel efficiency, has good storage space, and is quick, this is the car for you. you will get your moneys worth and more.

My father bought this car in 2007. He passed it on to me last year, as I realized that the dsg oil had never been changed and it also had a leak, causing it to have lost 2 liters+ of oil. Guess what, it didn’t brake down. Fixed the leak and works like new with 245.000km
