Let’s talk about selenium, a truly fascinating trace mineral that’s so important for your health. It’s a coenzyme, a helper enzyme that’s involved in about 25 different proteins. It’s also a very powerful antioxidant that’s involved with glutathione, another powerful antioxidant. So if there are too many heavy metals, chemicals, or sugars destroying your brain or nervous system, as can happen with diabetes, glutathione protects those tissues.

Selenium is important for diabetics. It can improve insulin resistance. It’s also good for your heart. It prevents oxidation and helps rid your body of the hydrogen peroxide it makes.

You need selenium for your thyroid, to convert T4 (the inactive form of thyroid hormone) to T3 (the active form) and thus to what’s called reverse T3. It’s also involved in the detoxification of mercury. Salmon can contain mercury but it also contains selenium which will help alleviate it. It’s an anti-inflammatory and can reduce the risk of male infertility.

If you have the thyroid autoimmune condition called Hashimoto, selenium can help decrease the antibodies to your thyroid by about 21 percent.

Good sources of selenium include:

Brazil nuts has the most selenium
Tuna
Halibut
Sardines
Salmon
Organ meat
Meat
Eggs

You don’t want to go over 400 micrograms or you’ll become toxic with too much selenium. But too little selenium is also an issue so be sure to eat these foods to get enough.

I heard from a Cardiologist that Selenium kills Cancer cells. I eat Brazil nuts, sardines, salmon, organic eggs, and take a Selenium supplement. Thanks for the 400 mcg warning Dr. Berg. I don't think I have ever taken that much daily. 2 thumbs up for this video.

I have been living a strict Keto life style since July 2018, and will continue as I feel healthier than ever. I also live with Hemochromatosis. So I had to make some slight adjustments regarding consuming red meat, organ meat, spinach, beet greens, shell fish, broccoli (all foods that I love). I take the following anti oxidant supplements: Selenium, Vitamin E, Turmeric, Magnesium, Calcium and Milk Thistle. I drink one glass of lemon water and one cup of buttered coffee in the am, otherwise green tea and plenty of plain water. I exercise on my water rower 3/day for 15 minutes each. I am 63 but feel 36, am 5'10" and weigh 135 lbs. I follow Dr. Eric Lewis regarding my blood condition, and I follow you, Dr. Berg, regarding all matters keto genic. Thank you, "Hemo Lewis" and thank you, "Keto Berg" for changing my life for the better.  My labs (iron, cholesterol and blood sugar) are normal. Greetings from Alberta, Canada. Love, cat

The white board outlines are much better than slides for my learning style. I can skim info initially, follow linearly through your presented points, and refer back and forth to synthesize. Combined with your logical, concise, clear presentations, this is optimal! Thank you so very much for all of your work, and for the gifts of learning and tools for health and a productive, happy, long life🌹 💚johanna

I was tired every evening.
I ordered some bags of Brazil nuts and now eat two nuts a day. I feel much more focused, my memory has improved significantly and i don't feel fired anymore.
It feels like my pre-nut life was just a dream, because of the brain fog.
