I worked with the SSEB in the late sixties and at one time I was in the control room for the Electric Blanket, I am pretty sure you had to enter Princes Street gardens by the floral clock turn sharp left and take path parallel to the mound and it was on the left hand side.

My elderly father, who grew up in Newhaven, Edinburgh, remembers tram conductors getting out and guiding the tram up the mound in the fog!

Like we needed another hill in Edinburgh? That said, I love the way it curves up from Princes Street past the galleries to the High Street - and I can get the 27 bus home :)

Hi Tony, The substation that supplied the blanket is in the gardens. It is on the left hand side of the mound, there is a gate just on the bend. Keep it up.

Lived in Edinburgh for many years and did not know about the under road heating. Cheers Tony, you are right I will be using that one 😊

From someone who loves Scottish history, from west Lothian originally(I now live in SW England), but Edinburgh was my stomping town. Love the place. Can't wait for my summer visit.

I love seeing how Edinburgh has and is always changing. But hearing your information and storytelling of this wonderful heated blanket road, it's one thing I have never known. Thank you. It's certainly a Scottish thing to do. We did not hold back on engineering, and it's a proud heritage.

Have you ever done a video on the bings? With the oil shale and og fracking boom, it's an interesting engineering accomplishment that made a lot of men wealthy.

Excellent. I always knew about the mound being heated but I had no idea of the background story.
Thanks for clearing it up.

Wow that’s amazing.! My wife and visited Edinburgh this week for her birthday. I have to say it was a brilliant, following on from watching your vlogs we did Arthur’s seat, only the road walk, we will conquer the summit when we revisit in September. But the welcome we received from everyone was first class, so kind and polite. Oh and your Rugby teams not bad either 😂 that coming from an Englishman. So much we have seen or done but that’s going to keep us coming back for years to come. Keep up the great content, first class.
