You can tell it was in Wisconsin because the man was wearing a prehistoric cheese head hat.

That's just proof that wolverine is way older than we thought he ever was.

Thanks for showing this. People assume indigenous Americans and Australians were incapable of sophisticated culture and structure because of, well colonialism. They have some beautiful archaeology

Honestly, i thought more people would say this, but i assumed that this was a depiction of "Nanabozho" i learned about him while visiting another effigy mound. Nanabozho also known as nanabush is often depicted as a man with rabbit ears and is a spirit in Anishinaabe aadizookaan (traditional storytelling). He is a ojibwe trickster character aswell as a folk hero one story depicts him creating the first man and woman out of clay 😊 !

If you look up depictions of Nanabozho it uncanny the similarities !

For those wondering about the legs, they said that only noticed that this mound existed after the road was built, and now outlined and are trying to perserve it. whether or not that's true, idk

I live in this area, it makes me sad it isn't more well known or protected/maintained better. Thank you for putting a spotlight on this, Milo.

It’s so sad that sites like this are destroyed just because they are in places that people find inconvenient.

Finally, a history short that is both well researched and gets to drop the “unusual and mysterious” line. I never thought I’d see the day
