After analyzing data from over 100,000+ Hydra hubs, Industry Nine has made several updates to the latest Hydra 2, increasing its durability and performance. The updated axle is 65% thicker to better dissipate stress, while larger 6903 bearings and an updated seal combine to provide less drag and increased bearing life. Updated pawl pockets and a stronger drive ring are capable of handling higher torque, offering reliable engagement, making this hub ideal for demanding riders and e-bikes.

Follow along as Rich and Joey take a deep dive into comparing and reviewing the differences between the original Industry Nine Hydra hubs to the new and updated Hydra 2.

Funny how these reviewers, sorry dealers, mention the negatives/defects of a product only after the newer version was released. I wonder why 😄

After three recent bad experiences with three different I9 hubs they'll never see my money ever again. None lasted longer than 350km.

These are issues that should not be occurring with such expensive components. I’m glad I passed on these hubs..

I have6 sets of enve wheels with Chris king some are 10 years now and no issues. All my enve wheels with Chris king the best for me. I have one set with i9 and the wheelset will be rebuilt with Chris king. so far 18+ years road cycling and mountain biking, so far Chris king awesome stuff. I really don’t care about engagement so much.

Such a mega super fast engagement! That’s great!! But now I will add an O-Chain to solve my kickback problem… 🙄😄

A 10 minute in depth video on a brand new i9 hub without showing how the hub sounds. Blasphemy.

Im thinking the problems from the old ones were side loading from one pawl engaging at a time. Id rather see 2 sets of 3 pawls 120deg apart rather than 6 individuals. With 145 teeth thats still 290 but likely more reliable.

Really well done review fellas, looking forward to the long term assessment as well.
Would you do a similar review on the Race Face Vault hub too?

Love the video, hate the way too loud music. It’s distracting to a point that it’s aggravating. Pls lower the volume on a vid while discussing complicated technical discussions. Last thing you want is having trouble concentrating to music you can’t switch off

Lack of maintenance is why they fail??? Don't make me laugh. It seems they once again made a hub that will explode if you don't "maintain" it. Last time I checked, i9 is the only company who's been putting the burden of their engineering failures on the end user to this extent. A bicycle hub should go a long time without needing to be torn apart, cleaned and reassembled. Also, what's a tear down going to do if the parts are just weak? Adding new oil isn't going to magically make my axle stronger. Then new axle is smaller too. And still a thin wall hollow aluminum tube. A foreboding and unfortunate development.

Maybe I’m a shitty rider but have 3 pairs of hydras and I’ve never broke a axle.

I9 hubs are a joke. This company built itself by giving wheels to top riders and creating a buzz so every wanna be has to have them. The number of problems I’ve seen is ridonculous. Not to mention DNF’s in ultra endurance events. Why people buy them I will never know. Because of high engagement? Learn to ride first and engagement won’t mean as much.

Does it sound just the same as the original Hydra?
