This is young batman. He's only been doing this for two years. Also it makes sense why he's so serious and angry. His parents were murdered by a criminal and he's letting his anger out on other criminals. Its very comic accurate and is nothing like we've ever got from previous batman films. I'm super excited for this movie and digging the dark and gritty vibe. Looking forward to seeing Robert Pattison's batman evolution in future sequels.

Batman in Year One didn't give a fuck about surviving, he was constantly running towards the trouble and not being strategic about it. He grows to be more skillful.

This is between Year 1 and 2 of Bruce being The Batman.
He's done everything to get over the death of his parents *except* try to heal mentally/emotionally.
He's taking that anger and pain out on the criminals, without regard for his own safety.
I suspect - as more movies are made, if this is a success - that in later movies we'll see his growth, were he doesn't always go in to cave in the heads of criminals. Growth where he learns not to take such a physical beating. Growth as a detective.

The goal is that it is Bruce Wayne’s first two years as Batman. He is still dealing with the trauma of his parents death. And he is still discovering who he is as Batman and Bruce Wayne. It seems to be a psychological movie about him trying to balance the two, which tears him apart inside. I also think it’s supposed to be R-rated and the Riddler isn’t so much of a comic book physical threat. He’s much more of a mental foe to the Batman

Agreed with everyone below. Batman should be dark and gritty. He should be the gritty side of the 'superhero spectrum'. These reviewers missed the mark.

It's because he's only a year 2 Batman, he hasn't become that Dark Knight who knows all the tricks in the shadows. He's full of anger & rage, and hasn't focused it to be the batman he again becomes later.
He also is at a stage where the difference of bruce wayne & Batman is blurred still.
This is promoted as Noir style Detective Batman film, showing how he becomes the "greatest detective".

Anyways that's my 2 cents. Either way looking forward to seeing Reeves take on The Batman.

The movie was meant to come out in October 2021, literally this month. That's why they released the trailer last year. But then COVID spiked and forced them to release it later.
