Step into the sandals of a Roman soldier and experience a day of history and adventure along the B6318, the modern-day Military Road that shadows the legendary Hadrian's Wall.

This captivating route offers a unique opportunity to explore the remarkable remnants of Roman Britain and immerse yourself in the stories of the people who lived and worked along this iconic frontier.

Our adventure begins at Birdoswald Roman Fort, one of the best-preserved forts along Hadrian's Wall. Explore the ruins of this once-bustling outpost, walk in the footsteps of Roman soldiers, and imagine life on the edge of the Roman Empire. Discover the fascinating history of this strategic stronghold and learn about the daily lives of the men who guarded this section of Hadrian's Wall.

Next, we'll take a scenic walk through Cawfields Quarry, where you can witness the dramatic landscape that the Romans faced as they constructed Hadrian's Wall. Marvel at the sheer cliffs and rugged terrain, and imagine the backbreaking labor that went into quarrying the stone for this monumental undertaking.

Our final stop is Homestead's Roman Fort, arguably the most iconic and complete Roman fort along Hadrian's Wall. Wander through the remains of the barracks, granaries, and even the latrines, and get a glimpse into the daily life of a Roman garrison. Don't miss the chance to climb the fort's walls and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

The video was wonderful. The poor weather actually enhanced the views of the Roman ruins, it made them more romantic and a bit forlorn. Thanks for getting out in that wet weather for us.

What lush landscapes. The age of Hadrian’s Wall still amazes me. I don’t think I quite realized how large the forts were…and to still be standing (somewhat). Incredible.

We were at Symamore Gap in early September. 2 weeks before the tree was felled. We were very sad about it!😔...but it is a very beautiful area!😃

Although I know of the area from school history lessons but I had no idea what extensive building work they undertook in order to protect their territory from "those Picts " the other side of the wall. The weather makes you realise how awful it must have been for those Roman soldiers stationed there far far away from their warm and sunny Italy. Makes one feel almost sorry for them. Another fascinating video and already I'm looking forward to next week's.
